On Tuesday, November 7, Afghanistan all-rounder Rashid Khan was spotted in beast mode during Australia vs. Afghanistan Match 39 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Walking in at number seven, Rashid played a quick-fire innings of 35* (18), blasting two fours and three sixes to help Afghanistan reach 291/5 in their allocated 50 overs.
The 25-year-old lit up Wankhede Stadium with spectacular shots that had the audience on the edge of their seats. One of his strokes stunned everyone in the arena when he struck a ‘no-look’ six against Mitchell Starc. Rashid audaciously dragged a bouncer from Starc into the crowd at deep square leg for a maximum on the fifth ball of the 50th over. The shot startled former Australia captain Ricky Ponting, who is known for his superb pull shots.
“It’s like watching a game of Tennis,” said Ponting while describing the shot in the commentary.

Apart from Rashid, Ibrahim Zadran also starred with the bat for Afghanistan as he became the first player to score a hundred for his nation in the ODI World Cup history. Zadran remained unbeaten on 129* off 143 balls smashing eight fours and three sixes in his innings.

Later in the second innings, Australia’s pursuit got off to the worst possible start. Travis Head (0 off 2), David Warner (18 off 29), Mitchell Marsh (24 off 11), Marnus Lasbuschagne (14 off 28). and Josh Inglis (0 off 1) all being dismiss cheaply.
Glenn Maxwell, on the other hand, had other plans, hammering a record-breaking 201* (128) with 21 fours and 10 sixes to reverse the tide for his team. He and Pat Cummins put up an unbroken 202-run partnership to enable his team chase down 292 in 46.5 overs and win by three wickets.
