Riyan Parag to earn his maiden India call-up after Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy heroic. Parag scored 510 runs in ten tournament matches.
Riyan Parag of Assam has been having a great run in the current Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2023. As he is the tournament’s leading run-scorer with 510 runs. The 21-year-old is batting averaging 85 and has seven fifties in the competition with a strike rate of 182.79.
According to speculations, Parag’s outstanding performance would pave the way for him to receive his first call-up to the Indian squad in the forthcoming T20I series against Australia, which begins on November 23. Aside from his batting prowess, Parag has taken 11 wickets in 10 matches, with an average of 24.54 and an economy of 7.29.
“Parag has been a consistent performer in domestic cricket this season.” It’s difficult to dismiss his all-around performance. “He’s also an excellent fielder, which adds to his value,” a source told the Times of India.
According to TOI, the selectors would rest the majority of the players who are currently participating in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 for the Australia series and will most likely choose teenagers who won gold for India in the just finished Asian Games. To further his argument, Parag was the leading run-scorer in the Deodhar Trophy, amassing 354 runs in five games at an average of 88.50 and a strike rate of 136.67 with two hundreds and one fifty.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar to also mark his return after one year
Aside from him, the report says that veteran Indian seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar would also make a comeback in the forthcoming series. With all of the top bowlers resting, Bhuvneshwar Kumar will most likely spearhead India’s pace attack against Australia. The 33-year-old last appeared for India in a Twenty20 International against New Zealand in November 2022.
He took 16 wickets from seven innings in SMAT 2023, with an average of 9.31 and an economy of 5.84. The 33-year-old has 90 wickets in T20Is and will play an important part in the upcoming series’ youthful lineup.
