Bumrah, Siraj, and Shami run riot on Sri Lanka, leaving them at 14/6. Pathum Nissanka was dismissed on the very first delivery of the innings by Jasprit Bumrah.
During their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 battle on Thursday, November 02 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, India’s new ball duo Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj made Sri Lanka revisit the horrors of the Asia Cup 2023 final. India batted first and produced a massive total of 357/8 in their allocated 50 overs. In response, Jasprit Bumrah got the side off to a flying start by catching Pathum Nissanka in front of the stumps with the opening delivery of the innings.
Mohammed Siraj also joined the celebration by dismissing Dimuth Karunaratne lbw and catching Sadeera Samarawickrama at slip in the same over. The right-arm seamer added to the anguish by dismissing skipper Kusal Mendis (1 off 10) in the very next over, leaving Sri Lanka in serious danger at 3/4 after 3.1 overs.

Following the four early wickets, skipper Rohit Sharma introduced Mohammed Shami into the attack, and the right-arm seamer did not disappoint as he swept down Sri Lanka’s batting order. Shami scooped up four more scalps to add to Sri Lanka’s woes, leaving them reeling at 29/8 after 13.1 overs. Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for 55 in 19.4 overs, with Mohammed Shami taking his fourth five-wicket haul of the season and finishing with scores of 5/18 in five overs.

Shami also became India’s top wicket-taker in ODI World Cup history. 45 wickets from 14 matches, surpassing Zaheer Khan’s record of 44 wickets. In his World Cup career, the 33-year-old has a mind-boggling average of 12.91 and an economy of 4.91.
He has 14 wickets from three matches in the current season. An average of 6.71 and an economy of 4.27. Shami rightfully named Player of the Match for his fifer against Sri Lanka, which enable India reach the tournament’s semi-finals.
