Mitchell Starc, Australia’s go-to bowler, was named their go-to bowler by captain Aaron Finch on Friday.
The team prepares to face a wounded West Indies in the Twenty20 World Cup’s pivotal final group encounter.
On Thursday, Australia beat Bangladesh by eight wickets to move ahead of South Africa on net run rate, and a win in Abu Dhabi on Saturday would keep their semi-final ambitions alive.
West Indies, on the other hand, we’re unable to defend their T20 crown after losing to Sri Lanka for the third time in four matches.
“West Indies is such a dangerous side, we saw that when we played them,” he said.
“Obviously with them being out of the competition now they’ve got nothing to lose, which can also be a really dangerous spot.”
However, in a bilateral T20 series in July, the outgoing holders outclassed Australia 4-1, and Captain Aaron is worried.
Captain Aaron said of his pace spearhead:
“The ability to take wickets all through the innings with the new ball. At the death, in particular, he is as good as anyone in the world.
“So absolutely he is a strike weapon that we love to use any stage we feel. We can exploit someone or there is a little weakness, or you want to keep pressing through the middle overs. He is the one you turn to most times.”
Despite losing to England, Australia’s bowlers, spearheaded by Starc. Swept out Bangladesh for 73, a score their batsmen chased down in 6.2 overs.
After dismissing Litton Das for zero, Starc went on to dismiss skipper Mahmudullah Riyad for a duck. Starc’s fast pace resulted in results of 2-21.
With his leg-spin, Adam Zampa had career-best figures of 5-19 as Australia knocked Bangladesh out in 15 overs.
Zampa will always be a bowler that puts the opposition under pressure, according to Finch.
