England’s spearhead Jofra Archer joins the squad before of their vital encounter against South Africa on October 21 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. Notably, the 28-year-old has been sideline with various ailments ahead of the 2017 ODI World Cup, ruling him out of the first round. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) opted not to include him in the 15-man roster, thus he did not go with the team at first.
However, after losing two of three matches in the showpiece competition, England is in a precarious position right now. To advance for the semi-finals, the Jos Buttler-led side cannot afford to lose any more points. Thus Archer’s arrival at this critical stage might be critical. Notably, he is not yet a member of the 15-man roster and hence will be unable to play in the match against South Africa. However, there is still the prospect of a last-minute alteration. Archer’s last professional match was in May, and his fitness remains to be seen
He has played in 21 One-Day Internationals for England, taking 42 wickets. He was crucial in England’s victory in the 2019 ODI World Cup, and the Three Lions’ bowling hasn’t been the same since his departure.
Chris Woakes, who is bowling with the new ball in Archer’s absence, continues to be a source of concern. Sam Curran’s form is still being scrutinize, and England must fix their pace unit as soon as possible. As a result, if Archer joins the 15-man roster, he will undoubtedly strengthen the speed unit and help the team maintain the title.
