A young Ireland men’s squad has been selected for the West Indies tour.

A young Irish men’s team has been selected for the West Indies tour. The team, under the direction of Stephen Doheny, will leave on November 12 and return on December 7, with games taking place at two Antiguan locations.

A 14-person Emerging Ireland men’s squad has been chosen by the selectors to travel the West Indies beginning in November 2023. During the tour, the Irish team will compete in three 50-over white ball matches and two four-day red ball matches.

The team, headed by Stephen Doheny, will leave on November 12 and return on December 7

There will be games play at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium (SVRS) and the Coolidge Cricket Ground (CCG) in Antigua.

Since making his international debut in January of this year, Doheny, who competes domestically for Merrion Cricket Club and the North West Warriors in the Inter-Provincial Series, has played 12 times for Ireland. He will lead the team as captain and serve as the primary wicketkeeper.

“This Emerging Ireland Men’s squad features a mix of youth and fringe contracted players all with a common need—the need to play more cricket. ” Said Andrew White, Ireland Men’s national selector.

“We have been impress by the talent that has come through the system in recent seasons. But the truth is that most of these guys have not had enough opportunities to play top-notch cricket to advance to the senior international squad.

“This tour will provide the players more exposure and experience. While also giving them the chance to test themselves against a tough opponent in unfamiliar surroundings. This group of gamers requires just this level of difficulty to advance their games. While we all anticipate a larger Wolves program beginning in 2024, this type of tour will give these 14 players a fitting test and priceless playing and touring experience in the interim. An Irish international cricketer will play more matches outside of Ireland than within the country.
