On Wednesday, October 11 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. India captain Rohit Sharma seen at his imperious best during Match 9 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 versus Afghanistan. Rohit came out to bat with all guns blazing, taking on Afghanistan’s bowlers right away. The opening batter went on to produce a record-breaking century as India cruised to an eight-wicket victory.
Rohit batted brilliantly, scoring 131 off 84 balls while hitting 16 fours and five sixes. Among the numerous sumptuous strokes hammered by the Indian skipper. One in the ninth over against Azmatullah Omarzai had the fans screaming in delight.
With his customary pull, Rohit sent a short delivery far back towards deep midwicket on the third ball of the over. The Indian opener sent the ball soaring into the night sky, captivating everyone. Rohit’s shot also left KL Rahul speechless, as he was seen mouthing ‘Oh Wow’ in the dressing room.

Throughout his innings, Rohit threw records to the wind as he demonstrated his varied strokeplay. He became the first player in ODI history to reach 1000 runs by dancing down the track and smoking Fazalhaq Farooqui for a maximum over deep extra cover. The 36-year-old became the tournament’s joint-fastest batter to score 1000 runs, doing so in 19 innings alongside David Warner.

Rohit Sharma scored fastest hundred by an Indian in ODI World Cup
He also had the fastest century by an Indian hitter in the ODI World Cup, achieving the milestone in just 63 balls. Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has completed the milestone in 81 balls against Bermuda in the 2007 World Cup.
The Nagpur-born hitter also surpassed Chris Gayle’s 553 maximums to take the lead in the list of most sixes in international cricket. Rohit currently has 556 sixes in 473 innings in international cricket.
India won the match by eight wickets after chasing down the goal of 273 in 35 overs thanks to his innings. For his record-breaking innings, the Indian captain was rightfully named Player of the Match.
