The second One-Day International (ODI) between New Zealand and Bangladesh, played on Saturday, September 23 at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, was full of drama, with several controversial incidents. Bangladesh seamer Hasan Mahmud ran out New Zealand spinner Ish Sodhi at the non-striker’s end in his delivery stride for backing up too far in the 46th over of the first innings.
The judgment refer to the third umpire, who rule that the batter was out under the revised rules of the game. In a remarkable turn of events, Bangladesh captain Litton Das and Mahmud withdrew their request to recall Sodhi. When he summon back, the Kiwi player approach Mahmud and hugged him.
However, an even more odd moment occurred later in the game on the second ball of the 49th over. Ish Sodhi ended up edging a slower ball from Khaled Ahmed straight to the wicketkeeper, but the umpire denied Bangladesh’s appeal. Unsatisfied with the umpire’s judgment, Ahmed urged his captain to review it. Replays reveal a distinct edge from Sodhi’s bat carrying to the wicketkeeper’s hands, forcing the decision to be reversed.
As a result, Sodhi’s innings ended on 35 (39) with many criticizing his’spirit of the game’ for holding firm despite edging the ball and failing to return Bangladesh’s kind gesture early in the innings.

To recap the game, New Zealand were bowl out for 254 after electing to bat first. Henry Nicholls (49 off 61), Tom Blundell (68 off 66), and Sodhi all contributing with the bat. Bangladesh’s bowlers of choice were Khaled Ahmed (3/60) and Mahedi Hasan (3/45).
In response, the hosts were bowled out for 168, with Sodhi excelling with the ball, taking 6/39 in ten overs. As a result, New Zealand triumphed by 86 runs and now leads the series 1-0.
