On their Asian Games debut, India Women score their fastest-ever T20I innings. The squad scored 173 runs in only 15 overs.
The Indian women’s cricket team is now playing their maiden Asian Games game at Hangzhou’s Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field. They have amassed a tremendous total of 173 runs in only 15 overs. Indian batsmen enjoyed a terrific day against an average Malaysian bowling attack. Which aided by some sloppy fielding from the opposition.
Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana opened the innings with a fifty-run stand. Mandhana was out soon after, but Verma continued her good form, scoring 67 runs off 39 balls.
Jemimah Rodrigues also contributed 47 runs to the team’s total. Richa Ghosh’s scorching cameo of 21 runs off seven balls brought the innings to a close on a high note. There’s a rain delay during the inning, therefore the number of overs reduced to 15.
Due to the absence of usual skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana has taken over as captain of the Indian team for this game. It will now be interesting to see how soon the Indian bowlers can dismiss the Malaysian innings and secure India’s triumph.
Indian Men’s team are also set to take part in the event
On the other side, the Indian men’s cricket team is training for their upcoming Asian Games matches. The men’s event will feature 15 teams contending for the gold medal, and it will begin on September 27. On October 7, the bronze and gold medal matches will be played.
Cricket was not included in the 2018 Asian Games. It has returned this year, much to the surprise of cricket enthusiasts. Based on their ICC rankings, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh have already qualified for the quarterfinals.
The remaining 11 teams will battle for the four remaining quarterfinal slots. These teams have been separate into four groups, and only the winners of each group will progress to the next round of competition.
