Shubman Gill discusses India’s strategy for dealing with Pakistan’s dangerous pace trio. Gill removed after scoring 10 (32) against Pakistan in the opening game.
Shubman Gill, India’s batting star, struggled against Pakistan seamers in the opening game of the Asia Cup 2023 in Pallekele. The 24-year-old, who has been in great form this year, could only manage 10 (32) against Haris Rauf. Gill appear to be worried by the trio of Shaheen Afridi (4/35), Naseem Shah (3/36) and Haris Rauf (3/58), as he failed to match their exceptional swing control.
Speaking about the problems provided by Pakistan’s speed trio ahead of the next match against the arch-rivals. Gill stated that because they don’t face Pakistan attacks very often, they aren’t acclimate to them.

We need to make a good start and dominate them from the beginning: Shubman Gill
“They are two very different fast bowlers, each with their own specialties.” Shaheen swings the ball a lot. Naseem is all about pace and appreciates wicket assistance. They present various obstacles under various settings. “As openers, we need to get off to a good start and dominate them right away,” he continued.
After failing to score against Pakistan, the Punjab-born hitter batted brilliantly, scoring 67* (62) with eight fours and a six. India reached the Super 4 stage of the tournament after chasing down the DLS amended goal of 145 in 20.1 overs. Gill would be anxious to make amends for his poor performance when India meets Pakistan again on Sunday, September 10 at R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
