At the conclusion of the current women’s Hundred event, England’s seasoned left-arm spinner Alex Hartley will retire from professional cricket, she said on Tuesday, August 23. She competes for the Welsh Fire ladies, who have 11 points and are presently ranked second in the standings.
She took a hiatus from the game earlier in 2023, stating that she was “struggling mentally” while competing for Thunder in regional cricket. He also disclosed that she had lost interest in bowling and confidence in her abilities. But the ODI World Cup champion from 2017 made a comeback with The Hundred.

“I’m hanging up my boots; I’m leaving cricket forever. Every moment of my time with Welsh Fire has been simply wonderful. Over the past month, the staff has been fantastic in their support. Additionally, I object to playing 50-over cricket. On the BBC podcast No Balls, which she co-hosts with Kate Cross, Hartley stated.
“I’m quite thrill. I’m going to miss it a lot. Going to be so sad, but it’s necessary, right? I’ve been contemplating it for a very long time,” the 29-year-old continued.
Since making her international debut in June 2016, Hartley has participated in 28 ODIs and 4 T20Is, taking 39 and 3 wickets, respectively. She still considers her 2017 World Cup victory to be her greatest international achievement. With 10 wickets, the 29-year-old finished as England’s second-highest wicket-taker in the nine games he participated in the ICC (International Cricket Council) worldwide event. This included the vital dismissal of India captain Harmanpreet Kaur in the final at the Lord’s Cricket Ground.
Hartley lost her spot due to Sophie Ecclestone’s ascent to the position of top left-arm spinner in England. Notably, in late 2019, she even lost her central contract. She did, however, continue to play for Manchester Originals in season one of The Hundred and Thunder in domestic cricket before joining Welsh Fire in 2022.
