Stuart Broad, the great England pacer, has opted to retire from cricket after the conclusion of the Ashes 2023 series. Notably, the pacer reached out to his two colleagues and game mainstays, James Anderson and Joe Root, on Friday evening to advise them of his choice. Furthermore, it was alleged that Broad was teary-eyed upon announcing his retirement choice.
Notably, Broad took his 600th Test wicket last week at Manchester’s Old Trafford. He went on to become the world’s sixth most wicket-taking bowler. Furthermore, he is only the second English bowler, after James Anderson, to have taken 600 wickets.
Meanwhile, reflecting on his decision to end his career, Broad state that he considering it for quite some time. He also stated that he enjoys playing versus Australia, his archrival. The lanky pacer also believes that this is the greatest time to call it quits on his long career because he regards ‘The Ashes’ as cricket’s most revered event.
“I’ve been thinking about it for a few weeks.” “England vs. Australia has always been the pinnacle for me – I have loved the battles with Australia that have come my way and the team’s way, I have a love affair with Ashes and I think I wanted my last bat and bowl to be in Ashes cricket,” Broad said.
“I told Stokesy last night and told the changing room this morning, and to be honest. It just felt like the right time and I didn’t want friends or Nottinghamshire team-mates to see things that might come out, so I prefer to just say it now, and just give it a good crack for the last Australia innings,” he added.

Broad beat Ian Botham’s record to become ‘The Ashes’ highest wicket-taker
Since 2009, Stuart Broad has never missed an Ashes series played at home. In 25 Test outings, the 37-year-old has 104 wickets at an average of 26.56. As a result, Broad now has more Test wickets against Australia than the legendary Ian Botham.
In his Ashes career, the pacer has taken 151 wickets. He recently trapped Usman Khawaja to achieve the 150-point plateau. With Australia poised to pursue their aim of winning this test on Day 4, Broad has the opportunity to add to his wicket record in the fourth innings. Notably, the Nottingham-born player earned his England Test debut against Sri Lanka away from home in 2007.
