If I had played for India, I would have collected 1,000 wickets: Saeed Ajmal

If I had played for India, I would have collected 1,000 wickets: Saeed Ajmal. “They [authorities] should have stopped me only in 2009.” They did, however, allow me to play. “They realized there had to be a way to stop him after I got 448 wickets, so they did what they did,” Ajmal explained.

During his brief international career, former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal regarded as one of the best bowlers in the world. The off-spinner took 447 wickets in 212 international matches while confusing hitters with his variations. In the ODI and T20I rankings, he even ranked first in the globe.

However, Ajmal’s career was cut short when the ICC suspended him in 2014.

When asked to reflect on his career, the Faisalabad-born spinner stated that if he had played for India, he would have collected 1000 wickets across all forms.

“By now, I’d have taken 1,000 wickets.” To be honest, I would have 1,000 wickets if I played for India. I used to be a bowler who took 100 wickets per year. “I took 100 wickets almost every year of my international career,” Ajmal remarked on the Nadir Ali show.

When asked about his suspension, Saeed Ajmal stated that the authorities should have stopped him at his debut in 2009. They stepped in, though, after he had establish himself as the most dangerous bowler in international cricket.

“Should have stop me only in 2009.” They did, however, allow me to play. They realized there has to be a method to stop him after I got 448 wickets, so they did what they did. “When I was ban from bowling, I was the world’s number one bowler,” he added.

Notably, Ajmal was banned due to a questionable bowling motion in which his elbow bent above 15 degrees while delivering the ball, exceeding the ICC’s permitted restriction. He was unable to adjust to the abrupt shift in his action and played his final game against Bangladesh in April 2015.

Following his suspension, the spinner stated that numerous Indian bowlers bowled with dubious motion as well. However, because to the BCCI’s (Board of Control for Cricket in India) authority and influence in international cricket, they were not outlawed.
