Tim Paine opens up on England’s ‘Bazball’ approach

Tim Paine opens up on England’s ‘Bazball’ approach. Much has been said about England’s ultra-aggressive ‘Bazball’ strategy. Tim Paine examines how quickly things may go wrong for England.

England has outplayed South Africa, New Zealand, India, and Pakistan by employing the amusing Bazball strategy. They will be hoping to add arch-rival Australia to the list as they seek to reclaim the Ashes on home grounds. The first Test between the two sides will be held at Edgbaston.

Tim Paine, the captain when Australia last visited England for the Ashes in 2019. Analyse the Bazball approach in an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald prior to the first match of the highly anticipated series. The former wicketkeeper-batter gave Australia the advantage and also stated that England’s ‘Bazball’ approach might backfire soon if the Pat Cummins-led side plays its best cricket.

“I still believe that if Australia gets it right and plays their best cricket. It (Bazball) can come unstuck pretty quickly for England.” I believe Australia has the upper hand. While England is playing a different kind of cricket and is confident in it. The team appears to be quite similar to what we witness in Australia last year.

“It will be fascinating to see how the Australians approach it. ” Do you set up defensive fields because they’ve showed a willingness to score quickly? Keep your catchers up and throw some blokes out on the fence to see whether England wants to put their ego aside or if they want to keep going hard?”

While Paine recognized that some English players have had a good year. He also stated that a few nicks or lbws might create doubts in their minds.

If the ball isn’t moving and the pitches aren’t helping them, I believe the Australian bats can dominate: Tim Paine

According to several reports released prior to the upcoming first Test, England has requested fast and flat grounds with short boundaries to accommodate their aggressive approach. This, according to Paine, could backfire for England because it will be more like Australian conditions, which will suit the newly-crowned World Test Champions better.

“That’s not what I’d do.” That seems too similar to Australian conditions to me, and it hasn’t worked for them. I think that favours Australia.

“If the ball is not moving, the pitches aren’t offering them assistance, I think the Aussie batters can dominate. Having said that, I’m fascinated to see what will happen if their batters do come off because our bowlers have never been put under that kind of pressure.”
