The entire globe, particularly Mumbai Indians fans, had been anticipating Arjun Tendulkar’s IPL debut. The teenager finally found his place in the playing XI. After being signed by the franchise in the IPL 2022 mega auction when Mumbai faced the Kolkata Knight Riders in their fourth game of the IPL 2023.
Sachin Tendulkar and Arjun became the first father-son duo to play in the IPL when he made his debut. Former India captain Tendulkar, widely considered as the greatest batter in the game’s history, burst into tears when Arjun bowled his first IPL over. Arjun still in the lineup when Mumbai met Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday, April 18, and he got his first IPL wicket.
While commentating on air during the SRH vs MI clash, Ian Bishop revealed a lesser-known encounter with the Master Blaster while discussing the IPL’s most well-known father-son duo.

“The floor manager had a word with Sachin, I won’t name him, the floor manager. He mention how much he liked the fact that Arjun is now playing in the IPL. ” Sachin’s eyes were welling up with tears. And he added, “You know, when I first bowled in the IPL, my first over went for five.” Arjun’s first over also went for five runs. So Sachin had that in mind the entire time,” Bishop added while commenting.
Former India player and former India head coach Ravi Shastri also made a significant statement on Tendulkar. Shastri responded to Bishop by saying:
“But he’ll be tense.” Bish (Bishop) stated Arjun remembering every time he got the ball. He may forget a few innings, but he will never forget an over. He’s also bowled. “He’ll remember everything,” Shastri added.
Arjun picked up his first IPL wicket in just his second game for the five-time champions, dismissing Bhuvneshwar Kumar on the penultimate delivery of the second innings to end SRH’s chase. Interestingly, in a Ranji Trophy game at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, seasoned pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck out Sachin for a duck.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the only bowler in Ranji Trophy history to have dismissed Sachin Tendulkar for a duck. Sachin’s son Arjun took out the SRH fast bowler fourteen years later at the same location, as the young MI pacer grabbed his first IPL wicket.
