The fallout from India’s catastrophic T20 World Cup 2022 campaign has cast doubt on the future of a number of seasoned players. Dinesh Karthik, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, and even captain Rohit Sharma might be on their way out. Despite being the top-scoring batter in this year’s T20 World Cup, some believe Virat Kohli may not play in the 2024 edition. Monty Panesar, a former England spinner, has finally spoken out on the subject.

The future of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in T20 cricket remains uncertain.
“Let’s be honest. India didn’t put up a fight in the semis. It was a completely one-sided affair. Indian bowling looked clueless in front of Buttler and Hales. You are playing the semis and you need to give a solid fight. Rohit (Sharma), Dinesh Karthik and R Ashwin are the top names who could say goodbye to T20I cricket. The team management will surely have a meeting with these guys and will ask them about their plans…It’s time these players make way for young players,”
Monty Panesar stated
In terms of Virat Kohli’s future, Panesar is confident that the talismanic batsman would participate in the T20 World Cup 2024 due to his exceptional fitness level.
“Virat is in fantastic shape. He is the most physically fit among the Indian players. Given his incredible athleticism, Virat’s age is simply a number. He might appear in the T20 World Cup in 2024. I don’t see Rohit, DK, or Ashwin competing in that competition (may not be there). There might be more players retiring from T20Is, but I believe these three will focus on Tests and ODIs”
Panesar concluded
