The Andrew Symonds Grandstand at Townsville’s Riverway Stadium dedicated. Andrew Symonds died as a result of an automobile accident in May of this year.
In May of this year, the great cricketer died after his vehicle off the road and overturned near Hervey Range, 50 kilometers west of Townsville in far north Queensland. The rescue personnel attempted to resuscitate Symonds, but he died as a result of his injuries.

Will Symonds (eight years old) recalled spending hours with his father at Riverway Stadium’s nets.
“We had this tennis ball machine that he would feed balls to me… we would bat them all day. I miss everything about him and wish I could have said my goodbyes to him. (With the grandstand) I’ll never forget that; he’s always up there, gazing down on me.”
In August, Riverway Stadium held its first-ever international series between Australia and Zimbabwe. A memorial service for Symonds is held, with family members walking to the ground and placing his baggy green bat, Akubra hat, fishing rod, and crab pot at the wickets. During the first game of the series, Symonds’ son and daughter also brought beverages for the home team.
Barbara Symonds, Symonds’ mother, said the grandstand will serve to honor her son’s legacy. “He was just my son who enjoyed playing cricket. But knowing that he is adore by so many people makes you extremely proud “she stated.
