SLC Secretary says Sri Lanka will still receive $6 million despite losing the Asia Cup hosting rights. The Asia Cup 2022 will be held in the UAE from August 27 to September 11.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Secretary Mohan de Silva stated that if the country hosted the Asia Cup in 2022. It would receive a whopping US $6 million. Sri Lanka originally schedule to host the tournament, but force to withdraw at the last minute due to the country’s ongoing political and economic tensions.
As a result, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) had no choice but to relocate the Asia Cup to UAE. Which would now host the 15th edition of the tournament from August 27 to September 11. In the curtain-raiser, Sri Lanka will face Afghanistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Sri Lanka’s economy would have benefited greatly if we had hosted it: Mohan de Silva
“Sri Lanka will continue to receive the US $ 2.5 million hosting fee, 1.5 million ticket sale fees, and 2 million fee due to each participating team,” SLC Secretary said, as quoted by Sri Lanka Cricket.
“However, this was solely due to the stakeholders’ doubts as a result of the country’s current unrest.” If we had hosted it, Sri Lanka’s economy would have definitely benefited from a tourism boost, and the country’s image would have improved,” he said.
Returning to the Asia Cup 2022, it will be held in the T20 format as a dress rehearsal for the T20 World Cup in Australia in October-November, and it will be the tournament’s second time in this format after the 2016 edition, which was won by India.
Because of the format of this year’s competition, arch-rivals India and Pakistan could face each other on multiple occasions. Following their group match on August 28, the two teams could face off in the Super 4s on September 4 and the final on September 11 if both teams make it to the summit clash.
