MS Dhoni, who just stepped down as captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK); is known for his calm and collected manner as well as his sharp wit. He’s also known for being honest, whether it’s with the media or with his teammates and coaches. Prasanna Agoram, a sports data analyst who joined the Rising Pune Supergiant team as a performance coach in 2016; recounted his first meeting with the mysterious wicketkeeper-batter; who was playing for them while the Indian Premier League (IPL) was halted for two years.
Prasanna Agoram wrote a blog for Cricbuzz on how Dhoni welcomed him; to the team but also gave him one clear command.
“On the first day we met when I had the opportunity to work with Mahendra Singh Dhoni; for the Pune Super Giants in the IPL 2016, he remarked, ‘Let’s have a chat,'” he wrote.
“He was going to put his pads on as we stood in the Pune Stadium. He inquired as to if he could bring me a filter coffee. I said, ‘Yes, please.’ He signaled the boys to bring a filter coffee and then; resumed his conversation with me “He went on to say more.
He then revealed what Dhoni had said to him.
“‘Look, I know you have a lot of expertise in this sector and that players like you; as well as coach Stephen Fleming; were essential in getting you on board.’ ‘It’s a pleasure to work with you,’ he expressed his gratitude. ‘Give the coach and the players all of the information and strategies.

Get the players and coach together for strategy sessions; but don’t expect me to be there, and don’t give me any advise until I ask. All your discussions with the coach and players, however, should include a copy of the email.”

Dhoni was the captain of the now-defunct franchise at the time, but was eventually replaced by Steve Smith.
When CSK returned to the tournament, he was back with them; and guided them to a title in their first year back.
