Asif Ali: Islamabad’s beliefs are rewarded when Pakistan needs them. Asif Ali hit 19 balls at the 2021 T20 World Cup, seven of which were hit six times.
He played against New Zealand on Tuesday night, crossing Pakistan and defeating India with 10 wickets before running out of 27 12 balls to maintain a 100% record.
He was undefeated 25 out of 7 and won 3 out of 3 against Afghanistan on Friday. Not surprisingly, Asif wanted to thank the PSL franchise primarily.

I’m only in the team because I was performing, after all.”In the last series, I played [in South Africa and Zimbabwe], I played in the middle order at No. 6. It’s tricky in that position. The stats guys only see that I scored 10 runs in three innings, but they don’t see if you played only three or four balls of the final over. They only pull out the stat, rather than understanding the intricacies of middle-order batting.
Sitting deep in his crease, hoping for a yorker, Asif hits the first ball over Janat’s head, lifts a back-length ball over the mid-wicket, and two more over a wide long-off.
I hit a slot ball and closed the victory. Don’t worry that he wasn’t able to defeat two successful wide yorkers.

Asif’s Four Six won the game with one over before the end.
“I want to thank Misbah[-ul-Haq] – who I started my career alongside in Faisalabad and later at SNGPL. Then I played under him when he became coach of Pakistan. He worked very hard with me and I’ll always be grateful to him. All my coaches have worked with me and I’m thankful to them.”
Asif also acknowledges Pakistan’s management for his role in his training with a more focused approach to his training, allowing him to practice more in deadly situations.
