- England is in Australia for the Ashes, which begin on December 8
Cooley, a 55-year-old Australian, will assist the tourists’ quicks in Brisbane under the leadership of top pace bowling coach Jon Lewis. According to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). He will then aid England’s second-string Lions seamers in a four-day encounter against Australia A, which begins on December 9.
Cooley was England’s bowling coach during their 2005 Ashes series victory. And he now works for Australia in a similar capacity.
“I’m really looking forward to picking his brain on Australian conditions, and Australian players, to be honest,” Broad said. “(Cooley) arrived when we got out of quarantine (on) Saturday, but he’s with us for a reasonable period of time.”
Broad (524 Test wickets) and long-time new-ball partner James Anderson (632) are not only England’s all-time leading Test wicket-takers. But they are also the only current squad members to have won an Ashes series in Australia. Following their participation in a 3-1 victory in 2010/11.
England, on the other hand, has lost nine of its last ten Tests in Australia, with only one tie.
Stuart Broad, who is 35 years old, is hopeful that Cooley can help restore the equilibrium

“He’s been in their setup for a long time, from development to top level,” the Nottinghamshire seamer explained.
“We’ll be picking Troy’s brain on all of this,” Broad said. “Anything you can acquire, even a one-percenter on someone, would be really beneficial for us.” Broad’s father, Chris, was a vital player of England’s 1986/87 Ashes-winning side in Australia.
“To win in Australia, you’ll need all of that. You must always be at the top of your game and look for chinks in the opposition’s armor.”
The first Test of a five-match series begins on December 8 at Brisbane’s Gabba stadium. With Australia holding the Ashes after a drew in the 2019 series in England.
