Babar Azam remains tightlipped on conversations with Virat Kohli. “I always try to talk to him when we play against each other,” Babar said.
In 2022, Virat Kohli was likely going through one of the most difficult times of his career. During that time, Pakistan’s star batter, Babar Azam, sent him some encouraging words via Twitter. The two’s friendship is well known, and Babar has now spoken openly about Virat’s motivating words for him. He kept most of the conversation to himself.
The right-handed batter has struggled since the World Cup 2023. Despite scoring a series of half-centuries against New Zealand in the T20Is, his usual touch was absent. Virat and Babar first met during the Asia Cup 2023, and then again during India’s World Cup match against Pakistan.
“I always try to talk to him when we play against each other. I always ask him a few questions, and he helps me with them. Not only that, but I also talk a lot to Steve Smith and Kane Williamson when we play against Australia and New Zealand. I had a good conversation with Virat Kohli; there are some things we discussed that I can’t reveal here, but it was fruitful,” Babar said in an interview with Zalmi TV.

Indian people showed us so much love: Babar Azam
The Pakistan captain also discussed his experience playing a World Cup match against India in Ahmedabad. He stated that the blue jerseys dominated the entire stadium, similar to a sea. He went on to say that Pakistan received a lot of support in the other venues where they played. He also admitted that he had not anticipated the Indian crowd’s support for Pakistan.
“There was a different vibe. The stadium was completely blue. You can expect this when you play in India. However, we received exceptional support in other venues as well. I did not expect it from India. I had not expected it at all. It was my first time in India, and I knew nothing about the country. It was a different experience. It was their love; the Indian people showed us so much love and appreciated our cricket,” Babar said.
