MS Dhoni has been named the IPL’s greatest team captain by an expert panel. MS Dhoni has led the Chennai Super Kings to a joint record five IPL titles.
On Sunday, February 18, legendary India and CSK captain MS Dhoni name captain of the finest IPL team of all time. Notably, the team form to commemorate the triumph of the world’s greatest T20 League, which debuted in 2008. The IPL will celebrate its 16th anniversary on February 20, 2024, the date of the tournament’s inaugural auction.
Dhoni was the most expensive player in the inaugural IPL auction, selling for a stunning USD 1.5 million to CSK. Since then, the Ranchi-born cricketer has written a golden chapter in the tournament’s history. Leading CSK to the joint-most five trophies and leaving a legacy for future generations.
Former cricketers Wasim Akram, Matthew Hayden, Tom Moody. Dale Steyn served on the selection panel for the greatest IPL team of all time, along with about 70 journalists.
Speaking about Dhoni’s excellence, former Australian cricketer Tom Moody stated that Dhoni has won the IPL with both mediocre and extremely good squads, demonstrating his leadership abilities.
“It has to be MS Dhoni for me, because he has won the title with both extremely excellent and average squads, which says a lot about the captain and his ability to lead a diverse group of players to success. Rohit Sharma has been an excellent captain for MI, but the team has consistently had one of the finest squads in the IPL since its establishment,” Moody told Star Sports.

Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Suresh Raina also make the cut
In addition to Dhoni, famous Indian batsman Virat Kohli chosen to open the innings alongside Chris Gayle. The middle order featured legends like Suresh Raina and AB de Villiers, as well as all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Sahne Watson.
Yuzevndra Chahal and Ravichandran Ashwin led the IPL’s spin department, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah were select as seamers. Stephen Fleming, the head coach, selected David Warner, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Sunil Narine as impact substitutes.
