Multan batted first and scored 185 runs in the first innings
Opener Dawid Malan scored 52 runs, while Reeza Hendricks smashed 79* runs off 54 deliveries. When it came to the chase, Karachi lost wickets in short succession, making things difficult in the middle. However, batting at number four, Malik took control of the situation, scoring 53 runs off 35 deliveries.
However, Razzaq expected Malik to play with a higher strike rate because the conditions were good for hitters to accelerate.
“A player is someone who plays for a team,” Razzaq explained on Geo News’s ‘Harna Mana Hai’.
Aside from Razzaq, skipper Shan Masood was in fine form, scoring 30 runs off 29 deliveries, while Kieron Pollard added 28 runs off 29 deliveries. The former West Indies captain won the recently ended ILT20 on Saturday and quickly returned to Karachi to face Multan on Sunday. He took a long time to settle down but couldn’t get going, as Multan won by 55 runs.
Meanwhile, Karachi will need to make major improvements
Neither their hitters nor their bowlers stood out against Multan. They face additional pressure to perform well this season. Karachi failed to qualify for the playoffs in 2022 and 2023, and their start in PSL 2024 does not appear bright.
Multan, on the other side, lost to the Lahore Qalandars in two consecutive finals. The goal is to get the job done this time, therefore the Mohammad Rizwan-led team has strengthened their middle order. They also have quality pacers in their ranks who can aid them cross the finish line.
