Ashleigh Gardner will concentrate on batting in a white-ball series. The inaugural ODI is set to begin on Thursday, December 28 at Mumbai’s renowned Wankhede Stadium.
Ashleigh Gardner, Australia’s star all-rounder, claimed that she is determined to make her mark with the bat when her team faces India in six white-ball games, including three ODIs and as many T20Is. The inaugural One-Day International (ODI) is set to begin on Thursday, December 28 at Mumbai’s renowned Wankhede Stadium.
Gardner had a lean stretch in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) this season. Meanwhile, the 26-year-old all-rounder bowled 50 overs in the one-off Test against Harmanpreet Kaur’s team, which they lost by eight wickets.
“I was having a great time until the next morning when I woke up and found myself very sore in parts of my body that I didn’t think I used when bowling.” But it was a fantastic opportunity for me. “I recovered surprisingly quickly; Haven’t felt like I bowled 50 overs in a Test match in a couple of days, so I feel ready to go again,” Gardner said on the eve of the first ODI.

In nets, I feel like I’m batting well: Gardner
Gardner noted that the tournament did not go as planned due to her poor batting performance in the WBBL. She is, however, optimistic that she would put on a great display with the bat in the upcoming white-ball series. The 26-year-old has 21 wickets at 18.5 in the 2023 WBBL, but just 289 runs at 22.
“The Big Bash did not proceed as planned… That’s disappointing because I feel like I’m batting well in the cages, but it’s one of those things where I can’t always translate it into games. When you feel like you’re timing the ball well and hitting the ball. You just want it to happen in games, that’s the most frustrating thing for a batter.
“I don’t think I’m that far away; Don’t think it’s technical; I just can’t make clear decisions. ” In a place like India, you have to be very clear on your gameplan. That’s something I’m going to focus on in these last six games here,” she says.
“Bowling is one of those skills where you get more than one shot; with the bat, you’re out; With the ball, you can show a little bit more resilience. ” That’s something I’ve worked on over the last few years. Focusing on what I’m really good at with the ball and being able to use it more frequently than not. That comes back to Alyssa Healy having a lot of faith in me with the ball right now, which has boosted my confidence. “I’m in a really good spot with the ball right now. Hopefully that will translate to the bat as well. ” The Australian concluded.
