What was the pitch controversy? I just heard about it: Shubman Gill. India defeated New Zealand by 70 runs in the first semi-final.
India went on to defeat New Zealand in the World Cup 2023 first semi-final by a tremendous score of 70 runs. However, there were claims before the game that the host nation had modified the surface for the crucial battle. They decided to play on their favored pitch rather than the new one kept ready for the semi-final.
During his post-match news conference, India cricketer Shubman Gill stated that he was unaware of the entire situation.
“I have found out just now that there was a controversy over the pitch. What was the controversy,” said Shubman Gill in his post-match press conference as quoted by Outlook.

I would have got my hundred had I not suffered the cramps: Shubman Gill
Concerning the semi-final encounter, Gill and Rohit Sharma were once again instrumental in providing India a great start. However, severe cramping hampered Gill’s performance at Wankhede, when he was on his way to his first World Cup ton. Gill departed on 79* as India amassed a mammoth 397-run victory against New Zealand.
Gill returned later in the match, but the match situation prevented him from reaching his ton, as he concluded his innings on 80* runs, thanks to eight fours and three sixes. India will now play the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 on November 19th in Ahmedabad.
“I would have gotten my hundred if I hadn’t had cramps.” We were able to obtain the total we were aiming for, regardless of whether I got a hundred or not, which we had hoped for around the 25th or 30th over. “We made that many, so it doesn’t matter whether I got a hundred or not,” Gill added.
