Angelo Mathews declares ‘time out’ after dismissing Shakib Al Hasan in the BAN vs SL match. After Shakib Al Hasan protested for his dismissal in the first innings, Angelo Mathews was awarded time out.
The 38th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, was contested at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi and included some heated moments on the pitch, with both sides taking shots at each other. The tight game included the first timed-out dismissal in international cricket history, as Angelo Mathews was dismissed in the first innings following an appeal by Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan.
Later in the second innings, the Sri Lankan all-rounder handed the Bangladesh skipper a suitable send-off by removing him in the 32nd over. The southpaw failed to read Mathews’ slower ball on the opening ball of the over and earned a leading edge. The ball flew into the air and was caught by Charith Asalanka at short mid-off, thereby ending Shakib’s innings.
After removing Shakib, Mathews signaled ‘time out’ for Bangladesh’s skipper at the crease by pointing to his wrist.
