Sam Billings steps down as Kent skipper. It has been an incredible honour to captain this great club, said Billings.
After nearly six years as captain of Kent County Cricket Club, Sam Billings has stepped down. The English cricketer, who is under contract with Kent until the end of 2025, has already stepped down as captain and will now do the same for the T20 team.
After succeeding Sam Northeast as captain in 2018, Billings led Kent to promotion from Division Two in his debut season. Despite failing to qualify from the group stage in the previous two T20 seasons, he led the club to victory in the 2021 Vitality Blast.

Billings has conveyed his appreciation to the team management following his decision to step down as leader.
“Captaining this great club has been an incredible honor.” It’s been an honor to follow in the footsteps of so many great captains over the years. I hope I’ve left the club in a stronger position and carried the cap forward.
“A special thanks must go to Paul Downton for his unwavering support and advice throughout.” Along with Paul and Matt Walker, we set out with three clear goals in mind: to produce England players, win trophies, and play Division One cricket. The climate that has been built behind the scenes has constantly achieved all three goals, which I am quite proud of. “It’s been an incredible project to be a part of,” Billings added, according to ESPNCricinfo.
“Thank you to all of the members, staff, and, most importantly, the players for all of your help throughout the process.” “I’ll see you all at the Spitfire Ground again in 2024,” he said.
Billings, who has represented England in three Tests and 65 white-ball games, decided to not participate in the 2023 Indian Premier League to focus on Kent’s next County Championship season. However, the 32-year-old opted himself out of the lineup before deciding to step down from the captaincy role.
