Suryakumar Yadav, one of the most talented players in the game’s shortest format, has struggled to establish himself in one-day international cricket. The 32-year-old has played 26 ODIs for the national squad but has only scored 511 runs. Despite this, the cricketer has been selected for the forthcoming Asia Cup because the selectors believe he will improve and succeed like he has in T20Is thus far.
Notably, Suryakumar wants to return and is aware that he hasn’t performed well in the 50-over format. He knows that the Asia Cup is the ideal venue, and he often communicates with head coach Rahul Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli to enhance his ODI cricketing abilities. He further stated that he is prepared to accept any job the team management may assign him.
No matter what role I am assigned by the team, I will do my best to accomplish it. I’m looking forward to succeeding in this format. In T20Is, I’m doing fantastic. However, both of these are white-ball formats. People are questioning why I can’t figure this out, Suryakumar told Star Sports.
“I’m exercising. This format is the most difficult for me because you have to play a variety of other formats in it. You take your time at first, rotate your strikes, and then attempt some big shots like in T20Is. I have been speaking with the head coach, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli,” he continued.

Giving a brief update on his practice session, Suryakumar said that he is making an effort to acclimate to the circumstances.
“But I’m working on adapting my game to the circumstances and practicing accordingly. I’m hoping that this is the competition where I figure out the code. I always look forward to batting. It makes no difference whether I miss the first ball. When I have the chance to bat, I rush to the crease. People often wonder why, but I think it’s crucial to keep the energy up, Suryakumar said.
