The 29-year-old also captained India in the final two games of the recent ODI series against the West Indies.
He also produced a stunning innings of 70* (52) in the final ODI, slamming four fours and five sixes. Pandya was under pressure coming into the game because he had a poor showing in the IPL 2023, scoring only 5 and 7 in the first two ODIs.
Pandya’s leadership abilities were well recognized after he guided Gujarat Titans to an IPL win in their inaugural season in 2022. Since then, he’s been tipped to be India’s next white-ball captain, succeeding Rohit Sharma.
West Indies post 149/6 in first T20I
Meanwhile, West Indies scored 149/6 in their allotted 20 overs in the opening T20I after deciding to bat first. Captain Rovman Powell led his squad in scoring with a knock of 48 (32) that included three fours and three sixes. Yuzvendra Chahal (2/24, 3 overs) and Arshdeep Singh (2/31, 4 overs) were India’s bowling selections.
