Moeen Ali reflects on his Test return ahead of Ashes. England take on Australia in the Ashes series from June 16.
With the much-anticipated Ashes series just around the corner, England and Australia will be eager to stay on top of their game in order to take the urn. England, led by Ben Stokes, recently revealed that veteran all-rounder Moeen Ali will come out of retirement to replace spinner Jack Leach, who suffered a stress fracture in his back.
Moeen Ali explain how he learn he would be coming out of retirement ahead of the first Test of the Ashes, which begins on June 16. The 35-year-old first recounted receiving a text message from skipper Ben Stokes, which he initially mistook for a joke.
Furthermore, Ali indicated that he would not have agreed to come out of retirement for the Ashes; nonetheless, the opportunity to work with Stokes and Brendon McCullum was too good to pass up.
“Just the fact that it’s the Ashes and such a big series. As well as the exciting cricket the guys have been playing,” he explained. “It’s the kind of era I would have preferred when I was playing [previously].” “It’s the Ashes: to be a part of it would be incredible,” Mooen Ali was cited by ESPNcricinfo as saying.
“I was done when I retired, and that was the end of my playing career.” However, due to Leachy’s sad injury, I received a message and a phone call from Stokesy, Baz, and Keysy [Rob Key]. So let’s wait and see what happens,” he added.

Furthermore, Moeen Ali also reflected on how there is no pressure on him ahead of the marquee series. While stating that there is pressure of the occasion and the game, there is no pressure on him regarding his performance.
“I don’t see it as a Test career. ” It’s a no-cost hit. I’m not competing for a position. There is no real pressure. There is pressure from the occasion and the game. I spoke to Baz (Brendon McCullum) and he said he doesn’t care how I play, which is wonderful,” Moeen Ali said.
“As an individual, I want to do well and help the team win games.” I’m going to try to do all I ever wanted to do in Test cricket in these games. It could be harmful or not that risky. “We’ll see,” he said.
