Former West Indies captain Carl Hooper has joined the West Indies coaching staff. The West Indies are now in Sharjah preparing for the series against the UAE, which begins on Sunday, June 4th.
Carl Hooper is expected to join the West Indies as an assistant coach ahead of an ODI series against the UAE and a campaign in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier. In both Tests and One-Day Internationals (ODIs), Hooper has gathered over 5,000 runs and 100 wickets.
Hooper, who played 329 international games for the West Indies during a 15-year period. Worked as a coach and consultant at various levels in the Caribbean and Australia. Hooper has also coached the Antigua Hawksbills and the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the CPL. He was an assistant coach at the West Indies High-Performance Centre in Barbados. Last summer, the 56-year-old was an assistant coach with the Adelaide Strikers in Australia’s Big Bash League.

Hooper, who previously coached in the Caribbean and Australia. Said joining the West Indies system was an easy decision. “When Daren first approached me about the opportunity, I immediately confirmed my interest because I really want to help with the challenge and make a meaningful impact,” Hooper told ICC.
“I am confident in my ability, knowledge, and experience to assist in this endeavor,” he continued.
Meanwhile, the West Indies are in Sharjah for a series against the UAE, which begins on Sunday, June 4, at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The second match is schedule for Tuesday, June 6, and the third and final match is scheduled for Friday, June 9.
West Indies have been put in Group A for the ICC World Cup Qualifiers. Where they will meet hosts Zimbabwe, the United States, the Netherlands, and Nepal in the preliminary round. The ten countries will compete for the two remaining spots in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will be held later this year in India.
