MS Dhoni becomes the first cricketer in tournament history to play 250 games. Dhoni is the second-most successful skipper in IPL history, having won four titles.
On the reserve day (May 29), the IPL 2023 final began with Chennai Super Kings taking on Gujarat Titans. In the crucial encounter, CSK captain MS Dhoni won the toss and urged Gujarat to bat first. The ‘Captain Cool’ made history by walking out in his 250th game in IPL history, becoming the first player to do so.

Dhoni is the IPL’s second most successful captain
Led CSK to four titles in 2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021. The 41-year-old veteran also played for the Rising Pune Super Giants in 2016 and 2017, when Chennai was banned for two years after the IPL spot-fixing controversy in 2013.
Notably, Dhoni has captained 226 IPL matches, winning 132 and losing 91, for a win percentage of 58.40%. His win % is the highest in tournament history among captains who have led their teams in over 100 matches.
Dhoni has 5082 runs in 249 IPL matches at an average of 39.09 and a strike rate of 135.96, with 24 fifties. His greatest season came in 2018, when he scored 455 runs in 16 matches at an average of 75.83 and a strike rate of 150.66 with three fifties.
There was significant speculation prior to the start of the current season that Dhoni would retire from the IPL at the end of the season. If the iconic skipper decides to put up his boots at the conclusion of the season, the entire CSK team will try to give him a winning farewell by winning the big final.
