David Warner recalls pranking Ricky Ponting which hilariously backfired. During Australia’s 2010 Test series against South Africa, the incident took place.
David Warner, the captain of Australia and the Delhi Capitals (DC), remembered the day when one of his jokes on Australian legend Ricky Ponting backfired. It goes without saying that the flamboyant southpaw thoroughly amuses everyone with his antics both on and off the field.
Warner recalled one of his jokes during the 2010 series against South Africa, where he jammed the keyhole and smeared Vaseline on the door handle to prevent Ponting from entering his room.
“My first away series was in South Africa in 2010. Being that Ricky Ponting’s room was next to mine, I thought it would be a good idea to put vegemite in the keyhole and Vaseline on his door handle. Through my peephole, I could see that he was unable to open the door. ‘Breakfast with Champions’ host Warner said, ‘Someone must have told him it was me.

Warner did, however, mention how his practical joke severely backfired a few weeks later, when Ponting himself decided to teach the former a lesson.
“When I returned home three weeks later, I refrained from opening my cricket gear. Later, there was fish, eggs, etc. when I went to put my shoes on. By attempting to resolve this issue with customs, I could have ended myself in jail. Who could do this, I wondered, and then Punter sprang to mind. When I told him it was repulsive, he responded, “You want to pull a prank on me? I’ll be the last to laugh. I never again played a practical joke on Ricky Ponting, he continued.
Notably, Warner and Ponting played for the Delhi Capitals, who finished the season with 10 points from their final 14 games. Due to their poor performance in the top-tier competition, the squad ended up being the first one to be eliminated from the race for the playoffs.
