They may not be panicking yet, but the post-match presentations clearly show that Chennai Super Kings aren’t far from it. Chennai Super Kings appear to be a well-balanced side on paper, but they have batting options available throughout the order. Even if their only goal is to improve their slog over bowling, it will be extremely difficult to beat them if they can do so in the upcoming match.

Since the start of the previous season, the Sunrisers’ fortunes have been grim. Even before the auction, they had already lost Rashid Khan, and early indications suggested that David Warner would never return to Sunrisers Hyderabad. Sunrisers Hyderabad have yet to see a return on their investment in Kane Williamson, both as a batsman and as captain.
Even if their auction strategy went awry, their in-game strategy thus far has been on another level. Adding insult to injury, the players’ inability to respond offensively has been the primary reason for the Sunrisers’ continued relegation from contention. At the end of their previous game, they were just inches away from winning, but some sloppy batting in the dying moments cost them the victory.
However, the Sunrisers have performed well on the bowling front, which is surprising given the absence of Rashid Khan, who had previously driven the Sunrisers’ middle-overs attack. T Natarajan and Bhuvaneshwar Kumar are examples of batsmen who have performed well with the ball. It’s possible that they’ll make a small adjustment for the upcoming match, but that might be too soon for them. To put it simply: if they can improve their batting, the Sunrisers Hyderabad could make it difficult for anyone else to get past them because they have such a formidable bowling attack.

Chennai Super Kings haven’t had a start to talk about in the Indian Premier League 2020. They lost their premier players even before the tournament started and the absence of whom is still being felt. With Rayudu injured as well, Chennai could not settle upon a solid combination in the middle-order and that pushed them to the bottom of the ladder.
Originally tailored for the spin-friendly surface of MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the Superking’s bowling hasn’t quite clicked either. Lungi Ngidi looked ordinary at best and was eventually replaced by Josh Hazlewood. The biggest disappointment for them so far has been Ravindra Jadeja who has not only failed to pick up wickets but also has been unable to keep the batsmen quiet. In the three matches gone, Jadeja has conceded runs at an economy rate of 10.50.
Besides their bowling, it is their batting that seems to be crawling at the moment. Murali Vijay has looked dismal in all three matches gone and with Rayudu back, we expect Murali Vijay to sit out of the upcoming match. Rayudu smashed a brilliant half-century against Mumbai Indians before he had to sit on the sidelines due to an injury. With Faf du Plessis already doing well, Chennai Super Kings will once again get the much-needed strength in the middle-order.
MS Dhoni has also been accused of not leading from the front given that he didn’t come out to bat when the required run-rate was soaring in the early-teens and mere his presence the crease would have intimidated the bowlers. One argument in Dhoni’s favor could be that he wanted to provide all players with a chance to get past any rustiness that they might have been carrying into the tournament. With things getting more intense with every passing match, we expect Chennai Super Kings to have a more definite plan in the upcoming matches.
On paper, CSK have an immaculate balance. The presence of Sam Curran and Ravindra Jadeja, who both can contribute in all three departments of the game, provides them with a pretty good balance. Curran has already exhibited his skills with a couple of match winnings performance and will be a key man going forward. Even though Bravo he expected to be back when fit, we expect Curran to maintain his place in the playing eleven.
Chennai Super Kings are coming into the upcoming match on the back of a long seven-day break. Given that they will also have Amabati Rayudu back to the fold, Chennai Super Kings are expected to have a lot clearer road ahead. On paper, they have a decent lineup but are just struggling to find the right balance. If and whenever they find it, Chennai Super Kings will once again be a dangerous team to deal with.

It took them to bring Kane Williamson back into the side as the move immediately paid rich dividends. With that win, they moved from the bottom of the table to the sixth spot and will be looking to rise further.
Kane Williamson exhibited why he is rated as one of the best in the business with a brilliant knock in his first game in the tournament. Returning to SRH to fix their batting woes, Williamson had a huge challenge to not only score big but also score quickly. Coming in that number four, the spot which SRH have struggled to find the right candidate for, Kane Williamson announced himself with a match-winning knock, scoring 41 off 26 deliveries.
The addition of Williamson in the eleven certainly makes Sunrisers’ batting lineup look a lot better. Earlier, they appeared to be way too over-reliant on the opening pair of Jonny Bairstow and David Warner, but with Kanos fitting nicely into the scheme of things, Sunrisers’ batting appears to be a lot better. Debutant Abdul Samad impressed with a brief cameo, bu Having said that, they still do not have any candidate as a finished and until Vijay Shankar comes back into the fold, they are likely to find themselves in trouble should they lose too many wickets too early.
The Sunrisers have always been known for their splendid bowling attack and their performance in the last match gave ample reasons for that. Although not a well-known bowler, T Natarajan bowled a brilliant spell of fast-bowling against Delhi Capitals, delivering yorkers with pinpoint accuracy. With Bhuvneshwar Kumar available as the other death bowler, SRH seems to have their death-bowling sorted. However, Khaleel Ahmed certainly is a weak-link in their bowling lineup and could be targeted by the opposition batsmen.
Rashid Khan has always taken the center stage for the Sunrisers and his performance in the previous match justified that. Although he had not picked too many wickets up until the last match, he had done a fairly good job in keeping things quiet. On a surface that was conducive to spin, Rashid Khan proved to be just the bowler that Sunrisers needed against the Capitals. He picked up three important wickets, which sealed the game then and there. With Abhishek Sharma available to assist him in the spin-bowling department, Sunrisers Hyderabad appear to be pretty well equipped to bowl on the surfaces on offer in UAE.
Sunrisers Hyderabad have perhaps been one of the most consistent sides in the competition in recent times. David Warner, Kane Williamson, and Jonny Bairstow have been fantastic for them, but its the Indian batsmen they have lacked. Barring Manish Pandey, they still do not have anyone who has the experience and skillset required in the competition. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) came up with yet another clinical effort to brush aside the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by six wickets in Match 44 of the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) in Sharjah. With their triumph on Thursday, CSK became the first franchise to book a spot in the IPL playoffs.
After CSK’s bowlers restricted SRH to 134 for 7, their in-form openers Ruturaj Gaikwad (45 off 38) and Faf du Plessis (41 off 36) got the team off to a fantastic start, adding a brisk 75. There was a brief flutter as CSK slid to 108 for 4. However, Ambati Rayudu (17 not out) and MS Dhoni (14 not out) guided CSK to victory with some smart cricket.
After scoring only 12 from the first three overs, Gaikwad and Du Plessis helped themselves to one six each against Bhuvneshwar Kumar. While Gaikwad swiped the experienced SRH pacer over midwicket, Du Plessis cleared his front leg and clubbed one over wide long on for a massive maximum. The South African veteran helped himself to two more fours in Jason Holder’s first over.
SRH leggie Rashid Khan bowled the last over of the powerplay and it was an eventful one. After top-edging a sweep for four, Gaikwad danced down the wicket and lofted the wily bowler over his head for a maximum. Next ball, the CSK opener was trapped by a googly as he missed his sweep. Gaikwad, however, took the review and survived as replays showed the ball touching his gloves.
Du Plessis raised CSK’s fifty in style, lofting Siddharth Kaul down the ground for a six. He then cut one to the extra-cover boundary as CSK found it all easy in the chase. In the 9th over, Gaikwad came down the track and smashed one straight to Rashid. It was hit with fierce force though, and there was no chance of the bowler holding on to it.
There was some consolation for SRH as Gaikwad (45 off 38) fell to Holder. The CSK opener tried to loft a back of a length delivery but ended up slicing the ball towards mid-off as the delivery bounced a little more than he expected. SRH skipper Williamson completed a sharp overhead catch.
Moeen Ali came in and hit a couple of fours before perishing for 17 in a freak manner. He tried to pull Rashid but got a thick edge into his thigh pad. The ball then rolled back onto the stumps. Holder (3/27) then raised SRH’s hopes by dismissing Suresh Raina (2) and Du Plessis in the same over. While Raina was trapped plumb in front with a yorker-length delivery, Du Plessis miscued a short ball to midwicket.
As things got slightly tense, Dhoni had a close shave. In the 18th over, the CSK skipper drove Kaul uppishly towards extra cover, where Jason Roy flung himself him to his right. He got a hand but the ball did not stick. The next ball, Rayudu went inside out over extra cover and got a four.
With 16 needed off the last two overs, Rayudu all but sealed the game for CSK, clobbering Bhuvneshwar over long-on for a maximum. Dhoni then crunched a short one between deep midwicket and long-on for four.
In the final over, the CSK skipper turned back the clock and walloped Kaul to deep midwicket for a huge six as Chennai not only got past the winning line but also confirmed their IPL playoff berth.

SRH’s lean run with the bat continued as they posted a below-par 134 for 7 after being sent into bat by CSK. Wriddhiman Saha (44 off 46) was the only SRH batter to show some application as Josh Hazlewood (3/24) and Dwayne Bravo (2/17) starred with the ball for CSK.
After a couple of quiet overs, Saha jumped into action by smashing Deepak Chahar for two sixes. A back of a length ball was swatted to deep midwicket while one pitched outside off stump was guided over the bowler’s head.
Roy fell cheaply as he bottom-edged Hazlewood to Dhoni, having made two. Thanks to Saha, SRH reached a decent 41 for at the end of the powerplay. However, their IPL captain Williamson fell soon after, missing his flick to be trapped in front by Bravo for 11.
Saha had a lucky escape in the 9th over as he cut Shardul Thakur straight to point. CSK had no reason to celebrate as the bowler overstepped. The SRH wicketkeeper batter carried on in dogged fashion, seeking some support. He did not get much from Priyam Garg (7), who top-edged a short of a length delivery from Bravo straight up in the air.
Saha himself perished in similar fashion a couple of overs later as he too got a top-edge trying to take on Ravindra Jadeja and the catch was pouched safely by Dhoni. The young SRH pair of Abhishek Sharma and Abdul Samad shone briefly. Samad thumped Hazlewood over long-on for a maximum after which Sharma went inside out and cleared the ropes off the same bowler.
It was too good to last, though. Immediately after being lofted for six by Sharma (18), Hazlewood had his revenge as the batter hit the next one straight to long-on. Samad (18) also perished in the same over, lobbing a catch towards point, where Moeen timed his jump to perfection. Hazlewood registered his career-best IPL figures as SRH stumbled past 130.
CSK pacer Hazlewood enjoyed his day out in the middle, claiming three wickets against a tentative SRH batting line-up. He claimed the big wicket of Jason Roy early and later added the scalps of Abhishek Sharma and Abdul Samad.
Bravo had another memorable outing. He conceded only 17 and also sent back Williamson and Garg. With the bat, CSK openers Du Plessis and Gaikwad starred again with crisp 40s.
For SRH, Saha played a fine hand of 44 while Holder claimed three big wickets to keep the side’s hopes alive.
Hazlewood was named Man of the Match for his excellent bowling spell.

SRH played with a lot of freedom against RR, looking like a very exciting side on the field. Jason Roy replaced David Warner at the top of the order, and gave the team some much-needed impetus. His 42-ball 60 combined with a calm 41-ball 51 from captain Kane Williamson helped SRH chase down RR’s total of 164-5.
In their first innings, SRH did well to contain RR to a manageable score, with Sanju Samson looking dangerous. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jason Holder bowled some tight lines and lengths, with Rashid Khan impressing as usual. Siddharth Kaul was also accurate at the death, with RR scoring only eleven runs off the last two overs.
CSK, meanwhile, got past the line in thrilling fashion against KKR with a last-ball victory. Chasing 172, CSK looked to be in cruise control, with both their openers getting 40-odd runs before getting out. However, Eoin Morgan held back his two spinners, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, for the second half of the innings. That put the choke on the CSK batters.
Eventually, with 26 runs required off the last two overs, Jadeja smashed Prasidh Krishna for 21 runs in the penultimate over to put CSK on the cusp of a win. However, with Sunil Narine bowling tightly in the last over, CSK could only hit the winning runs off the last ball and with two wickets in hand.
Earlier, CSK did a decent job to restrict KKR from posting a huge total. Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja were the picks of the bowlers for CSK. However, Sam Curran had a game to forget after replacing the rested DJ Bravo.
While CSK might be the favourites for this match, facing a team like SRH who have nothing to lose could be a dangerous proposition. CSK won comfortably by seven wickets the last time these two sides met. But we’re unlikely to see another one-sided game when CSK and SRH lock horns again.

It should be a warm and partly cloudy evening in Sharjah, with an average temperature of around 35 degrees celsius. Dew could make things a bit easier for the batters in the second innings.
The surface in Sharjah has been slow and not ideal for batting. While the small dimensions of the ground gives batters a chance, it’s a predominantly bowler-friendly track. Slower balls and spin would be the way to go at this venue, with 150 runs likely to be a competitive total.
