Mohammad Azharuddin believes Virat Kohli will excel in England. ‘If he gets one big score, a big hundred, the aggression and confidence will return,’ Azharuddin said.
Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin believes Virat Kohli will bounce back in the upcoming England series. Kohli had been going through a rough patch and had not been able to score much in the previous few years as a result.
The 33-year-old regained some form near the end of the IPL 2022, and he played some excellent knocks. However, the RCB batter failed to deliver on a consistent basis and had a poor season this time. He even changed his batting position and walked out to start the game, but nothing worked for the former RCB captain.
“When Kohli gets a 50, it appears that he has failed, but he hasn’t done much this year.” Everyone, including the best, goes through a rough patch in their career. Kohli has been playing a lot of cricket, and now that he has a break, hopefully he will return to form in England,” Azharuddin told GulfNews.
Kohli’s last century came more than two years ago. His most recent international century came against Bangladesh in the D/N Test at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Indian team will travel to England to play the postponed Test match from last year, followed by a three-match T20I series and as many ODIs. Kohli will return to action across formats after a brief hiatus following the IPL.
“There’s nothing wrong with his method. Sometimes a little luck is also required. “If he gets one big score, a big hundred, the aggression and confidence will return,” Azhar added.
Hardik Pandya is a talented player who just lacks consistency: Mohammad Azharuddin
Azharuddin also commented on Hardik Pandya, who led Gujarat Titans to their first IPL title, saying that the all-rounder needs to demonstrate consistency for a longer period of time now that he is returning to the Indian squad. Pandya has been named to the Indian T20I squad, which will host South Africa in a five-match T20I series.
“He has the ability, he has done well for the Indian team, but due to injuries, he was not a consistent member of the team.” He’s returned and is bowling his four overs. We have no idea how long he will bowl. But, as an all-rounder, we definitely want him to bowl. He completely changed the game in the IPL final (against Rajasthan Royals), taking three wickets in four overs and scoring 34 runs in quick succession. He has talent, but he lacks consistency,” he concluded.
