Cheteshwar Pujara will have to wait until next week to make his Sussex debut. As the Indian will be unavailable for the first County Championship match of the season due to visa difficulties.
The club has been in frequent touch with Pujara and has been working relentlessly to ensure that he is available for the first game of the season against Nottinghamshire. But the foreign batter will not be available until next week due to visa problems.
“Securing abroad players has been incredibly challenging in the current atmosphere.” Sussex Performance Director Keith Greenfield said of the challenges surrounding the postponement.

We renegotiated Pujara’s first contract to allow him to play in additional County Championship and Royal London Cup matches, which changed the visa criteria.

“Of course, I am sorry that a player of Pujara’s experience and quality will not be available for the opening day of the season,” said Head Coach Ian Salisbury. “But we must move on and now focus on the game ahead of us.”
This Thursday, Sussex will play Nottinghamshire at The 1st Central County Ground to kick off the season.
