Shane Watson has revealed why he couldn’t say no to coaching the Delhi Capitals in the upcoming IPL season, as well as some young players he is excited to work with.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season will begin on March 26. But Delhi Capitals will play Mumbai Indians, the five-time champions, the following day.
The Delhi Capitals have added two new coaches to their coaching staff for the upcoming season. Former India fast bowler Ajit Agarkar and former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson will be Ricky Ponting’s assistant coaches this season.
“The aspect of coaching that most excites me is the opportunity to assist people in becoming better versions of themselves.”
I was not going to pass up the opportunity to collaborate with Ricky. In an official Delhi Capitals release, Watson stated, “He has always been an incredible leader and mentor for me.”
Watson also revealed which players in the DC camp he is excited to work with.
Shane Watson Explains Why He Couldn’t Say No To Coaching The Delhi Capitals In IPL 2022
“The Delhi Capitals have a lot of exciting young talent.” I’ve worked with Sarfaraz Khan and Mandeep Singh before, and I’m looking forward to reconnecting with them and working with them in a new capacity.
Lalit Yadav is another player I’ve seen in training who is very exciting. But I’m here to assist everyone, and I’m looking forward to this opportunity.”
Last season, the Delhi Capitals reached the playoffs, but lost heartbreakingly to the Kolkata Knight Riders in Qualifier 2 in Sharjah.
Agarkar also discussed his time as the head coach of the Delhi Capitals.
“Ricky Ponting is one of the main reasons why so many people want to join this team. I’ve had the chance to play against him and with him in the IPL on several occasions. He’s someone I’ve known for a long time. And I’m well aware of Ricky’s fondness for working with the younger players.”
