Manchester United will soon create a cricket squad that will compete in the UAE T20 league starting in 2023. Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed, chairman of the Dubai Sports Council, confirmed the news in a tweet. Manchester Joined together will compete within the UAE T20 competition with a cricket team.
Today, I met with Avram Glazer, Manchester United’s Co-Chairman; to discuss how we might work together to improve Dubai’s status as a worldwide sporting centre. Sheikh Mansoor tweeted late Thursday, “We also discussed the UAE T20 Cricket league’s start; in January 2023 with Manchester United cricket club and other teams.”
United’s co-chairman, Glazer, has purchased one of the six teams in the UAE T20 league; which will begin play in January of next year. The United owners have recently expressed an interest in cricket; with one source claiming that a closed-shop franchise-based model without promotion; and relegation is one of the grounds for their interest. Their attempt to create a closed-shop European Super League in football, however, failed.
They also failed in their bids to purchase an Indian Premier League franchise; when the BCCI announced two new teams for the upcoming season. Following that, they focused their efforts on the UAE T20 league.
“I’m very excited to be a part of the development of the UAE T20 (league).” Last year; Avram Glazers remarked that the UAE T20 “promises to be a world-class tournament that will revolutionize; the growth of cricket in the Emirates.”

The Glazers are also the owners of the National Football League’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
They too fizzled in their offers to buy an Indian Head Association establishment; when the BCCI declared the expansion of two extra groups for the up and coming season.
