Chennai Braves eventually secured their first win of the Abu Dhabi T10 after eleven days and 26 games at the ninth time of asking. After Bopara and Munaf sparkle with the ball, Shahzad and Rajapaksa romp to victory.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who was named player of the match, commented afterward, “Better late than never.” They owed it to the Sri Lankan, who scored 55 not out off just 23 deliveries for his third half-century of the competition. The pair, together with the always-entertaining Mohammad Shahzad, ensured that the Braves scored their first points on the board, hitting 54 not out off 29 balls. It was all a little too late, of course.

The Braves have lacked match-winners throughout the competition without their star player, Nicholas Pooran, and an injury to Yusuf Pathan didn’t help matters.
As Northern Warriors were bowled out for 108, Angelo Perera, who was granted the captaincy midway through the tournament, lauded two of his more experienced players, Ravi Bopara and Munaf Patel, for orchestrating their victory. It was the first time in their history that the Braves had taken more than five wickets in a single inning.
Shanaka dismissed Umair Ali with the next ball, while Bopara took two wickets in the next over. Before Oshane Thomas was run out with a ball to spare, Dhananjaya Lakshan was left to get rid of Imran Tahir.
The Chennai Braves had only achieved totals of 107, 89, and 57 in their previous three games
So chasing 109 was never going to be easy. Rajapaksa and Shahzad, on the other hand, finished the job in style. After a tight first over from Tahir, Shahzad exploded for five boundaries in the second over against Abhimanyu Mithun.
Together, they chipped away at the total, draining. The Warriors’ energies as they realized they, too, had little chance of making the playoffs.
When Oshane Thomas returned to the attack, there were still 21 runs needed off three overs. Thomas has had an incredible tournament so far. Scoring the T10’s only hat-trick in his first game. Before producing the poorest numbers in T10 history with 0 for 50 in his two overs. Against Team Abu Dhabi.
Despite this, he bounced back the next night against the Deccan Gladiators, taking three wickets.
However, Rajapaksa ensured that the West Indian’s night was ruined. After being run-out for a duck, he was dismissed for 20 in his second over by the Sri Lankan. The 30-year-old celebrated his fiftieth birthday in style with a magnificent drive over the sweeper cover.
Shahzad was left to complete his half-century with a six, which also sealed the victory. The pair combined 15 fours and six sixes. Giving the Chennai side something to cheer about for the first time in a long time.
The four playoff berths have already been set as the league round of the competition.
Draws to a close with only four games remaining. The sides will be Team Abu Dhabi, Deccan Gladiators, Bangla Tigers. And Delhi Bulls, who will compete over two play-off days on Friday and Saturday.
As they attempt to make the final of the Abu Dhabi T10. It remains to be seen which two teams will finish as the top two and therefore get two bites at the cherry.
In the earlier game, Liam Livingstone struck a blistering 59 off 24 balls. To help Team Abu Dhabi retake first place by eight runs over Deccan Gladiators.
