Wasim Jaffer felt that the choice between Rahane and Agarwal would be a toss-up, but suggested that if the latter is dropped. Wriddhiman Saha should partner Shubman Gill at the top of the order.
With Virat Kohli returning for the second Test and Ajinkya Rahane struggling with his form recently, India’s playing XI for the second and final match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai would have to make some tough selections.
Given their dismal form, several pundits and former cricketers have predicted that either Mayank Agarwal or Rahane will be benched to make room for the Indian skipper.

Jaffer acknowledged that it would be a coin flip between Rahane and Agarwal. But that if the latter is dropped, Wriddhiman Saha should partner Shubman Gill at the top of the order.
Wasim Jaffer stated:
“Between Mayank Agarwal and Ajinkya Rahane, it’s a toss-up. Those are the two I’d consider. Virat Kohli must choose between these two options “
“Whether he wants to stick with Mayank Agarwal and give him another chance, or if he believes Ajinkya Rahane hasn’t scored enough runs in the following 10-12 Test matches after that Melbourne Test, so he’ll be dropped.” It’s a difficult decision, to say the least. It all depends on who gets hit by the sword.
“If Mayank Agarwal goes out, I suppose I’ll open with Saha because then everyone bats out of position.” Pujara will bat first, followed by Ajinkya Rahane, who will bat at a different position… “Everyone bats at the same spot if Saha opens,” he added.
“And you can do it with Saha in Indian conditions.” Is this a long-term decision? Certainly not, because India is planning a trip to South Africa. As a result, their top-six for Mumbai will have to be reconsidered.
Mayank scored just 30 runs in the ongoing first Test, while Rahane scored just four runs in the second innings after scoring 35 in the first.
