ICC Congratulates Ranjan Madugalle On Becoming 1st Match Referee To Officiate 200 Tests

ICC: The International Cricket Council (ICC) congratulated Ranjan Madugalle on his achievement of being the first Match Referee to officiate in 200 Test matches on Sunday.

• The Sri Lankan is the first Match Referee to accomplish this feat
• Madugalle accomplished the feat in Galle during the first SL against WI Test

In the ongoing first Test between Sri Lanka and the West Indies in Galle, Madugalle. The Chief Referee of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees attained the milestone. SLC Vice President Dr. Jayantha Dharmadasa and SLC CEO Ashley de Silva presented him with souvenirs on behalf of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). And the International Cricket Council (ICC) to commemorate the achievement.

Madugalle has also supervised 14 women’s ODIs and eight women’s T20Is. In addition to 200 men’s Test matches, 369 men’s ODIs, and 125 men’s T20Is.

“Ranjan has been a tremendous asset over the years and a significant source of inspiration for others. We have benefitted from his experience and work ethic. As someone, you can turn to for guidance,” Adrian Griffith, ICC Senior Manager – Umpires. And Referees said in an ICC release.

“On behalf of the ICC, I would like to thank Ranjan for his years of service. To the game and congratulate him on a wonderful career. We hope to continue benefiting from his expertise in the years to come,” he added.

Ranjan Madugalle had a ten-year international career as a cricketer for Sri Lanka

During which he appeared in each of his country’s first 18 Test matches and wowed fans with his elegant stroke-play. In addition, in his final two Tests, he captained Sri Lanka.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to be refereeing in my 200th Test match because it’s a milestone I never expected to attain.” While it has been a long time, it seems like only yesterday that I took on this responsibility since I have thoroughly enjoyed every step of the way,” Madugalle added.

“This is clearly the stuff of dreams, and I’m still engrossed in the game and in my role. Coordinating with colleagues from all around the world.”

“Obviously, the passion stems from my time as a player. And it is my good fortune to have remained so intimately associated with the game,” he continued.

However, In 1993, Madugalle was designated as an ICC Match Referee. Therefore Test match between Pakistan and New Zealand in Karachi in December of that year was his maiden assignment. Followed by an ODI soon after.

In addition, He has officiated in four ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Finals. Firstly (1999, 2003, 2015, and 2019), three ICC Champions Trophy Finals (2004, 2006, and 2013). And four ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Finals as an ICC Match Referee (2007, 2010, 2016, and 2021).
