Rachin Ravindra says Rahul Dravid is an absolute legend, would love to pick his brain

Rachin Ravindra revealed his name before the second T20I and termed Rahul Dravid “an absolute legend.” Rachin, who turned 22 on Thursday, was questioned during a virtual press conference if his name was related to Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar, two of India’s finest cricketers.

Rachin Ravindra, a young New Zealand all-rounder, said on Thursday that he had no idea if his name had anything to do with Rahul Dravid, but that he planned to pick Dravid’s brain during the present T20I series.

Rachin Ravindra said:

“To be honest, I’m not sure. I’ve never actually inquired of my parents about the origins of the name… You’d have to ask them, I suppose.”

Rachin was born in Wellington to Indian parents Ravi and Deepa Krishnamurthy, who both came to Wellington from Bangalore in the 1990s.

“Dravid is an amazing great in the game, and I played a little cricket against him when he was coaching India A and a couple of series when he came to New Zealand a couple of years ago.”

Rachin Ravindra earned his New Zealand debut in both the 2016 and 2018 U-19 Cricket World Cups

And it was around that time that he first met Dravid, who was the India juniors’ coach.

“He was their coach as well as the India U-19 squad.” So it’s great to have some interaction with them. Obviously, I’d like to interact with him a little more during this series, but he’s a game legend. So it would be fantastic if I could pick his brain,” he continued.

Rachin made his international debut against Bangladesh earlier this year, when they were defeated 3-1 in a five-match T20 series. In June, he was a member of the New Zealand squad that played India in the World Test Championship final, although he did not make the starting XI.

Mohammed Siraj bowled Rachin for seven runs in the opening T20I in Jaipur.
