Matt Critchley: The respected leg-spinning all-rounder travels to Chelmsford to pursue a career.
Derbyshire’s acclaimed leg-spinning all-rounder, Matt Critchley, has joined Essex on a three-year contract.
Critchley, 25, was one of the outstanding players in last year’s LV = Insurance County Championship. Scoring 1,000 runs, winning 32 wickets, scoring 1,318 runs in all formats and 52 people.
He was name to the PCA Men’s Team of the Year. And ranked second overall in the PCA MVP ranking, behind Essex’s weirdo Simon Harmer. He now wants to build a productive partnership.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be here and to have signed for Essex,” Critchley said. “Essex has been one of the best teams in the country for the last six years. You just have to look at the players in the dressing room. And the trophies they’ve won to know this must be a great place to play your cricket.”It was a tough decision to leave Derbyshire. But as soon as I was made aware of the interest. I wanted to make the move and I can’t wait to get going and to pull on the Essex shirt.”
Some captains said the team that dominates the power play over would have an advantage. And Morgan is crucial to England’s hope that opener Roys will make the most of those six overs.
England will face rival Ashes Australia in their next Group I match in Dubai on Saturday.
His top first-class score of 137 made him the youngest player in Derbyshire’s history to score a first-century score. Against Northamptonshire in 2015, but also top 194 against Northamptonshire in 2018. I got 10 bowling numbers.
Critchley was selected as the ECB International Pathway and participated in overseas dispatch in Australia in 2016 and 2017.
The following year, he was selects to tour the West Indies with the Lions of England and made two appearances.
