Pat Cummins’ choice to bowl first on a dry surface appeared dangerous at first, as Rohit Sharma led India’s attack with aggressive batting in the powerplay.
Sharma’s excellent performance, which included four fours and three sixes, suggested a large total, but Australia’s decision to put in spin spinners paid off. Sharma’s effort to hit Maxwell was unsuccessful, and Travis Head’s stunning grab silenced the crowd. The hush broken when Shreyas Iyer bowled out by Cummins, leaving India in a precarious situation.

Mitchell Starc was Australia’s top bowler, with a bowling total of 10-55-3. Hazlewood (2) and Cummins (2) pitched effectively for him. Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zampa both took one, limiting India to a low total.
