Alan Davidson: Former Australian all-rounder tested 44 times, winning 186 wickets, averaging 20.53.
Australian all-rounder Alan Davidson, who starred in the 1960 Thai test, died at the age of 92.
In his 1953-1963 test career, Davidson played 44 times, averaging 186 wickets out of 20.53.
This is the second-lowest average for bowlers with over 150 test wickets after SF Burns (16.43). With five test fifties and a top-notch average of 32.96.
He was also a very useful batter in the same game. Since then, only Ian Botham, Imran Khan, and Shakib Alan Hasan have accomplished this feat.
Alan Davidson remembered the second innings of the ’80s, one of the best finishes the game has ever seen.
“My best batting was in the second innings in the tied Test. But [Richie] Benaud ran me out at the most critical moment. We had two overs to go. We needed seven runs in virtually seven minutes. I told him, ‘Just make sure I am down there for Wes Hall.’ Richie played three or four balls in the penultimate over. Then he hit straight to Joe Solomon and took off. I wasn’t really backing up 100% and I was out by four to five yards. Next over Hall bounced Richie, who was caught behind. It was the most unforgettable game of all time.”
He claimed a wicket with his last ball in Test cricket against England in 1963. “When I went to start that last over in Test cricket, it was a memory-lane thing,” he recalled in 2012. “I remembered my first Test match was in Nottingham and all the rest of my career came back, and I was thinking, ‘I hope I can do something in this over.’
Raised on the Central Coast of New South Wales, Davidson studied games on his own pitch on his family’s property before moving to Sydney.
After recovering from a series of injuries, Davidson was at his best in the late 1950s and early 1960s under the command of his school opponent, New South Wales teammate, and best friend.
In his 1959 match against India in Kanpur, he recorded 124-12 numbers, including a 93-7 career leader in two innings over 57.3.
Lee German, the Cricket NSW chief executive, said:
Davidson remained a key figure in the game after playing, having served as President of Cricket New South Wales for 33 years and as an Australian Selector for 5 years from 1979 to 1984.
Inducted into the Sports Australia Hall of Fame and the ICC Hall of Fame. rice field.
He was appointed a member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1964 and was awarded the Order of Australia (AM) in 1987.
On Saturday, the flag flew half-mast over the SCG member pavilion.
Davidson’s death occurs the day after the death of former Australian off-spinner Ashley Mallett.
