Dindigul Dragons win the inaugural TNPL title thanks to Ravichandran Ashwin’s all-around performance. For his all-around effort in the championship game, Ashwin was named Player of the Match.
The Dindigul Dragons won the TNPL (Tamil Nadu Premier League) 2024, marking the team’s first-ever championship. On Sunday, August 4, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, the Lyca Kovai Kings and Dindigul Dragons squared off in the tournament’s championship match.

Kovai Kings lost the toss and elected to bat first to start the game
S Sujay and Suresh Kumar scored 22 and 11 runs, respectively, to start the team. In the same number of deliveries, Sai Sudharsan scored 14 runs, and U Mukilesh left for a golden duck.
Additionally, as their team scored 129 runs in the first innings, Ram Arvindh and Atheeq Ur Rahman each scored 27 and 25 runs. The valiant efforts of Dragons captain Ravichandran Ashwin prevented Kings from scoring a respectable total.
In the four overs that he bowled, Ashwin only gave up 13 runs while picking up no wickets. Along with Suboth Bhati, who scored one run, Sandeep Warrier, Varun Chakravarthy, and P Vignesh all claimed two wickets apiece.
Vimal Khumar and Shivam Singh, the team’s openers, left the game after scoring nine and four runs, respectively, while the Dragons emerged to pursue the objective. But Ashwin, the captain, steadied the innings for his team.
With 52 runs in 46 deliveries, Ashwin contributed to his team’s pursuit of the goal. Both Sarath Kumar and Baba Indrajith contributed significantly with the bat. Kumar added 27* runs in 15 balls and Indrajith scored 32 runs in 35 deliveries as the Dindigul Dragons won their first-ever TNPL title by six wickets after chasing the goal in 18.2 overs.
The experienced all-rounder was named Player of the Match for his outstanding effort. The cricketer was extremely economical with the ball and used the bat to keep his team’s innings on track. Ashwin’s captain’s innings was a major reason why the Dragons won the trophy.
