Kapil Dev advises Rohit Sharma to open bowling with Jasprit Bumrah in T20Is. Bumrah has picked up five wickets in two matches so far in the T20 World Cup 2024.
The trend exhibited during the IPL 2024 has persisted in the Indian team, with Jasprit Bumrah yet to bowl with the new ball in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. Skipper Rohit Sharma has picked Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj with the new ball in both matches thus far, infuriating veteran cricketer Kapil Dev, who believes Bumrah should be the go-to bowler.
The 1983 World Cup-winning captain believes that taking early wickets is critical in T20 cricket and that Bumrah is the best player available right now. Emphasized the significance of taking wickets with the new ball and warned that the game could slip away by the time Bumrah entered the attack.
“He must bowl the opening over; he is a wicket-taking bowler. “If you make him bowl as the fifth or sixth bowler, the game can slip away from you,” the former Indian skipper told ABP News.
“It’s not a test match. This is Twenty20. The quicker you take wickets, the more pressure you put on the opponents. It is preferable to have an optimistic outlook. “If Bumrah opens the bowling and takes a couple of wickets, it will make life easier for the other bowlers,” he said.

The renowned all-rounder reveals that he wasn’t expecting Bumrah to play that much cricket. Given his actions, the pacer endured several injuries throughout his career and was sidelined for the most of the previous few years, but he fought back and returned to his best. The former cricketer praised him for his hard work and added that the pacer has proven everyone wrong.
“We didn’t think he’d be able to play as much cricket because his motion and running style put strain on his body and shoulders. But he’s proven all of us incorrect,” he continued.
