Ricky Ponting reflects on why India is unable to win ICC trophies. “You’ve got to try and keep a clear mind where you can focus on the task at hand rather than thinking too far ahead or worrying about any sort of external pressures,” Ponting said.
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has addressed the Indian team’s current ICC title drought. It is worth mentioning that the Men in Blue last won an ICC trophy in 2013, winning the Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni’s leadership.
Ponting managed one of Australia’s most successful teams of all time, winning World Cups in 2003 and 2007, and the two-time World Cup winner believes the team must find a method to have a clear mind if they are to win.
“You’ve got to try and keep a clear mind where you can focus on the task at hand rather than thinking too far ahead or worrying about any sort of external pressures,” Ponting was cited as saying in Telegraph India.
“There is no doubt about the talent in the Indian group, but we must also remember that World Cups are not easy to win. “All of the world’s best players are together at the same time in different contrasting conditions,” he continued.

There’s definitely a mindset thing to it: Ponting
Furthermore, Ponting discussed how mindset is an important element of a winning team. He believes it is critical to deal with and cope with pressure, as well as think through unique scenarios.
“So, there is obviously a mindset component to it. “How you deal with pressure, how you cope with pressure, and how you think your way through certain situations makes the difference between winning and losing a T20 game,” Ponting said.
India recently began play in the T20 World Cup 2024, a competition that the USA and the West Indies are co-hosting. On June 5, India played their opening match of the competition in New York against Ireland. On June 9, the team will resume its campaign by playing Pakistan, their bitter rivals, in New York.
