BCCI must take ambitious steps to improve women’s cricket after WPL 2024. Following the WPL 2024, the intention is to host multiple multi-day domestic red-ball matches.
Following their recent Test victories over England and Australia, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is considering several approaches to improve red-ball cricket among women. According to reports, the plan is to hold multiple-day matches to introduce new cricketers to the game while also giving others the opportunity to improve their game in order to make the national squad.
Notably, the regulatory body oversees List A, T20, and age group matches for women in India. However multi-day tournaments were discontinue in 2018. They are now set to bring them back, with the intention of starting three-day tournaments following the second edition of the WPL. Which is supposedly said to begin in the last week.

When you play lengthier formats more often, you learn to play proper cricket shots: Diana Edulji
Former India captain Diana Edulji remarked that extended format games will teach batsmen how to play proper cricket strokes. She emphasized the value of playing three- and four-day matches, stating that more red-ball games will teach cricketers a lot about temperament.
“The most important thing is to organize a domestic three- or four-day event. I believe that playing more of this format helps you develop the temperament to stay at the wicket; in T20, you don’t just swing your bat around for a while. Even there, you must grasp how to learn to spend time in the center. When you play longer formats more often, you learn how to make proper cricket shots. I suggest that the BCCI hold at least one domestic event each year for the longer version. “Skills will improve as you play the longer version,” Edulji said.
